Making a Video Call

Modified on Mon, 22 Aug 2022 at 11:04 AM

Note: all RemoteSpark calls must begin from the remote user (cannot begin from the Expert end of the connection).

Start a Quick Call

The Quick Call button allows you to initiate a call from the HoloLens with one click. The call will initiate with Recommended Settings (1 mpbs audio/video connection).

  1. Go online on the HoloLens.
  2. Select the Quick Call button on an Expert contact who is online.
  3. Answer the call on the Expert side of the connection.
  4. When the call is answered, the RemoteSpark Client window will close and the HoloLens will enter Immersive View.
  5. After the call is connected, the HoloLens user will hear 'Call Connected' and can communicate with the Expert user.

Select Your Call Settings

You can select your audio/video stream settings by first clicking on the contact your wish to call instead of using the Quick Call button.

  1. Go online on the HoloLens.
  2. Select the Expert contact (who must also be online) that you want to call. Click anywhere on the Expert's icon (except for the Quick Call button).
  3. Select Video Call.
  4. Select the connection type (audio/video streaming resolution):
    • Recommended Settings: 1 mbps audio/video connection mode.
    • Fast Network Settings: 2.5 mbps audio/video connection mode.
    • Advanced Connection Modes: select from different connection speeds. Read our 'Call Speeds' article for more information.
  5. Answer the call on the Expert side.
  6. When the call is answered, the RemoteSpark Client window will close and the HoloLens will enter Immersive View.
  7. After the call is connected, the HoloLens user will hear 'Call Connected' and can communicate with the Expert user.

Start a Low-Bandwidth Call

You can select your call settings and initiate a RemoteSpark video call with lower video/audio resolution.

  1. Go online on the HoloLens.
  2. Select the Expert contact (who must also be online) that you want to call. Click anywhere on the Expert's icon (except for the Quick Call button).
  3. Select Video Call.
  4. Select the 80kbps or 144kbps connection mode.

Start an Instant Assist™ call (Insider Preview)

Instant Assist allows a HoloLens user to send a single-use call invitation to any email address. The receiver of the assist request can click the link to start a call with the HoloLens instantly using the RemoteSpark Web Client, without the need to create an account or login.

To start an Instant Assist call

  1. Go online on the HoloLens.
  2. Select Instant Assist.
  3. Enter the email of the Expert you want to call.
  4. Click Submit.

The expert will be sent an email link to answer, and RemoteSpark will show as ‘calling’ until they have answered.

To answer an Instant Assist call:

  1. Open your email inbox where the Instant Assist request was sent from system@kognitivspark.com.
  2. Click Answer Call to launch the RemoteSpark Web Client and begin the call.
    • Note: you are not required to login or add the remote user to start the call with Instant Assist.

Notes on Instant Assist

  • The Instant Assist function launches the RemoteSpark Web Client. Any regional availability or feature limitations of the Web Client are the same for Instant Assist.
  • The email link is active for a maximum of 5 minutes. If clicked after that, no video call will start with the HoloLens user.
  • The Instant Assist email is sent from system@kognitivspark.com.
  • All Instant Assist sessions start with Recommended Settings (1mbps).
  • All session data is stored under 'Email Expert' in your contact list.
