What’s new in RemoteSpark 1.8.1

What’s new in RemoteSpark 1.8.1:

  • Animations support for holograms
    • Holograms can now display animations.
    • Animations must be a single animated sequence, meaning that multiple animated sequences are not supported. Multiple objects can be animated in the scene, but all must be animated within the same sequence.
  • New command bar for holographic objects (holograms, photos, docs) in Immersive View
    • When a user gazes at an object (hologram, photo, document) in a RemoteSpark Session with their hand in the ready position, the command bar is placed beneath that object and the controls can be toggled for that object. The buttons can be used to remove/delete the object, resize (holograms and documents only), face the user (images and documents only), collect all images (photos only), play/pause/reset (animated holograms only).
  • Multi User Mode**
    • A video call can be initialized in “Multi User Mode”. This allows a call to establish between a PC and HoloLens, and once it’s started and a hologram is placed, up to three (3) Participant HoloLens’ can be added to the scene.
    • The Participant HoloLens’ can view all objects that are placed in the scene of the Lead HoloLens. They will not be able to move holograms as these are controlled by the Lead HoloLens (i.e. the commands to move, scale, and toggle animations are all controlled by the Lead HoloLens), but the Participants can move the images and documents in their scene. They are also free to independently scroll through pages on documents as the page turning is not controlled by the Lead HoloLens for the Participants.
  • Organizations + Administrator functions added
    • RemoteSpark 1.8 introduces the concept of Organizations, which allow users from a group or organization to share a common access point. Through their Administrator, they can also create an Organization Gallery which can be accessed by users in the Organization during RemoteSpark Sessions.
  • AI model training for object recognition with RemoteSpark**
    • RemoteSpark can perform object recognition through the HoloLens for objects that it has been trained with photos. Once an object is recognized, the hologram associated with that object is loaded in to the session.
    • Objects must be trained through an Organization Gallery by the Organization Administrator.
    • When performing an object recognition in a video call, both users in the call must be in the same Organization for the recognition to work.
  • Bounding box not toggled by default when a hologram is viewable by the HoloLens
    • When a hologram is loaded into RemoteSpark via video call, the HoloLens does not automatically see the bounding box. They can now toggle it using the bounding box button on the command bar.
  • Quick call button added to contact icons on the home screen
    • HoloLens users can now more easily call an Expert contact from the RemoteSpark home screen. Simply tap on the “quick call” button on an online contact to begin a video call with Recommended Settings (1 mbps).
  • New voice commands
    • “Next” and “previous” for scrolling through document pages.
    • “Larger” and “smaller” for scale-able objects (holograms, documents)
  •  “Face me” function, improved page scrolling and scaling (.5x & 2x) for documents
    • Documents can now be rotated to face the user with the Face Me button on the command bar.
    • Page scrolling can be done by air-tapping on the right half of the document (next page) and left side of the document (previous page).
    • Documents can now be scaled by using the larger/smaller voice commands or tapping the larger/smaller buttons on the command bar.
  • Transparent material support for holograms
    • glTF and .kspark files in RemoteSpark can support transparent materials. Transparent textures are not supported at this time.
  • Added Free/Standard Gallery accessible in RemoteSpark video calls by any RemoteSpark user
    • Each user can now access the Free/Standard Gallery from the Gallery page via the RemoteSpark home screen, and from within live video calls.
    • Previously the Free/Standard Gallery was only available in video calls to HoloLens’ with a Trial or Pro license.
  • Voice notification on HoloLens if voice commands fail to work and when a call fails
    • When the voice command API fails to initialize as the video call begins, the HoloLens user will hear “voice commands failed to initialize”.
      • This means all voice commands will not work within the session. If you require voice commands in your session, try restarting the HoloLens and re-initiating the call.
    • When a call disconnects or drops from either the Expert or HoloLens, the HoloLens will now hear one of two messages:
      • “Hanging up” – the HoloLens has disconnected from the call.
      • “Expert hanging up call” – the Expert’s device has disconnected from the call.
  • Various UI enhancements
    • Bounding box now is shown with lighter colours.
    • Document icons now face the HoloLens user when they’re about to be placed.
    • Updated login screen.
    • Text colour changes in various places.
    • Pending contacts say “Invitation” instead of “Trial” and are now placed at the top of the user’s contact list.
  • Users of RemoteSpark Expert (PC) who have launched the app and gone online can remain online while the application is minimized.
    • Previously RemoteSpark would only run in the background if the app had not been minimized.
  • Various call protocol enhancements (i.e. messaging updates to improve performance and reliability of calls)
    • Lowered the amount of chatter/messaging between the user’s devices and the servers, for improved call quality and lower potential for call failure or disconnection.
  • Various bug fixes:
    • Solved issue that caused thumbnails to not appear when an item was added to Gallery.
    • Catches for certain types of corrupted glTF models. RemoteSpark will stop downloading a file that it recognizes as corrupted and the HoloLens user will hear “cannot download hologram”.
