What’s new in RemoteSpark 1.9.1

New Features:

  1. RemoteSpark Server can be run in on-premise and private-cloud environments:
    • RemoteSpark’s backend services that enable audio/video streaming between devices and the backend storage functions of RemoteSpark can now be run with Windows Server 2016 and Windows Server 2019. This will allow users to run the backend of RemoteSpark on-premise or in a private-cloud environment.
    •  Note: custom server configuration and setup is not part of a standard RemoteSpark licensing agreement. Please contact sales@kognitivspark.com if you wish to discuss on-premise or private-cloud arrangements.
  2. RemoteSpark Mobile Server:
    • A version of the RemoteSpark Server backend functions can also be run on a Windows 10 device, without Windows Server.
    • Note: custom server configuration and setup is not part of a standard RemoteSpark licensing agreement. Please contact sales@kognitivspark.com if you wish to discuss on-premise or private-cloud arrangements.
  3. Multi-Step Animations:
    • Animated holograms can now contain multiple steps. Users can trigger each animated step after the previous step finishes playing by pushing the play button on the hologram’s command bar (or using the “Play Animation” voice command).
  4. RemoteSpark Admin Tool (beta):
    • A beta release of the RemoteSpark Admin Tool, a standalone application for Organization Administrators, is now available.
    • This allows Administrators to create and manage RemoteSpark user accounts in their Organization, connect users together without needing to do an in-app contact invitation, and manage their Organization Gallery.
    • Note: The Admin Tool is not available on the Microsoft Store and is only available via sideload package from Kognitiv Spark. Please contact support@kognitivspark.com for more information.
  5. 5mpbs video/audio streaming for 5G networks:
    • RemoteSpark call settings now includes the option to stream audio and video at 5mpbs.
    • This higher streaming resolution for audio/video is optimized for use on 5G networks.
    • This feature is currently in preview only. Will not be released until RemoteSpark 1.9.2
  6. Improved telemetry:
    • Enhanced event tracing and logging for events in RemoteSpark. For the cloud version of RemoteSpark, events can be queried by the Kognitiv Spark team when issues arise for a user in the application.
    • Logging for on-prem write to a folder and text files. Part of the integration work for on-premise users is to determine how the customer will ingest the log data.
  7. Network Test Tool:
    • When logged in to RemoteSpark, the Network Test Tool allows a user to run a diagnostic to ensure their camera and microphone permissions are turned on, and that they can reach the RemoteSpark Server functions that enable audio/video streaming and file storage.

Other changes:

  1. Voice commands removed from RemoteSpark HoloLens 2D window (Mixed Reality Home) view.
    • The voice commands from the RemoteSpark menu interface have been removed. Voice commands within RemoteSpark video calls on the HoloLens (“Take Photo,” “Face Me,” etc.) remain active and should see improved reliability.
  2. User notification as holograms are rendered on the HoloLens:
    • As holograms are downloaded and awaiting rendering on the HoloLens, the user will now hear “Updating your holographic scene. Please wait.”
    • The user still will lose view of all holograms, documents, photos while the object is rendering but the notification allows them to better understand what’s happening.
  3. Multi-User Mode has been disabled:
    • Multi-User Mode, which was released in version 1.8.1, has been removed in this version of RemoteSpark.
    • This feature is being redesigned for a possible release in a later version of RemoteSpark.
  4. AI object recognition has been disabled:
    • AI object recognition, which was released in version 1.8.1, has been removed in this version of RemoteSpark.
    • This feature is being redesigned for a planned release in a later version of RemoteSpark.
  5. Enterprise Tunnel mode has been changed to Select Server in the Settings page.
    • This mode also allows users to select a “custom server,” meaning where the RemoteSpark backend will run.
  6. Added additional voice commands for video calls:
    • “Collect Photos,” “Organizes Images,” “Organize Photos” – images in the session arrange in front of the HoloLens user (same as “Collect Images” command).
    • “End Session” – exits the RemoteSpark session (same as “Exit RemoteSpark” command)
    • “Toggle Play All” – turns the Play All function on or off for Multi-Step animated holograms.
    • “Delete Hologram,” “Remove Hologram” – deletes the 3D object (hologram, photo, or document) that the user is gazing at (same as “Remove” command).
  7. Updated Standard Gallery:
    • New holograms added to the Standard Gallery, including an object with a Multi-Step Animation.
  8. Improved hologram stability and rendering.
  9. 100+ additional minor stability fixes.

Notes on version 1.9.1

  • RemoteSpark 1.9 is incompatible with all previous versions of RemoteSpark. Ensure all users are using version 1.9 before attempting any video calls.
  • RemoteSpark 1.9 will not work on Surface Hub 1. The operating system for Surface Hub 1 is incompatible with the version of Windows 10 (version 1709) required for RemoteSpark 1.9.
  • Organizations can only have one (1) Administrator. For the cloud version of RemoteSpark, the Administrator is set in the license portal by Kognitiv Spark and set by the user’s email (must be an active RemoteSpark account).
    • Administrators can add users to the Organization, but if the user accounts are not created in the Admin Tool, they will need to accept the invitation from the Administrator to join the Organization.
